SERVICE LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
K Kids is a club for elementary school-age students.
Builders Club is a service club for middle school and junior high students.
Key Club shall be organized only at a high school that has been certified.
Circle K Club shall be organized only at standard degree-granting colleges, universities, junior colleges, and vocational technical schools that have been certified.
Aktion Clubs is a service organization for adult citizens living with developmental disabilities.
B.U.G. (Bringing Up Grades) / Terrific Kids are sponsored elementary school programs.
Key Leader is a new leadership experience for today's youth leaders. It will focus on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership leadership comes from helping others succeed.
The purpose of each sponsored group is to
provide personal growth in its members through community service,
leadership development, and fellowship activities. Each sponsored
club adopts and adheres to the approved form for
club bylaws, elects officers and holds regular meetings.
A Kiwanis Club must agree to sponsor a club or program with the support of the school administration.
Sponsorship has these responsibilities:
A. Appoint a Kiwanis Advisor and ensure the Advisor receives training;
B. Ensure Kiwanis members attend every meeting(s);
C. Maintain an expense line item in the Kiwanis Club's service
account to support the activities;
D. Work with the school's administration to secure a faculty advisor;
E. Ensure that all members pay annual dues;
F. Ensure that sponsored club's officers receive proper training;
G. Hold a planning session involving the leadership of the Kiwanis
Club and each sponsored club;
H. Host or participate in two joint activities;
I. Invite all SLP members to attend every regular Kiwanis meeting.
Many clubs do not sponsor any of the youth
clubs Circle K, Key, Builders, or K-Kids.
To help the District with the expenses of these wonderful groups
as we help them throughout the year to continue to do their good
work, a donation of $75 sent to the District Office will secure
a banner patch and a place on the list of donors that will be
recognized at the District Convention.
Every penny of your donation will go into a fund for the above four groups and our District administrators will be able to draw on the fund as needed.
Even if you already sponsor a youth program, you can still participate. This fund should be able to secure more monies than the District budget allows the youth programs.
A donation of $175 to sponsor a youth to
a district Key Leader weekend event will also secure a special
banner patch for participation.
These young people are our future. Help Them Today!
Clubs wishing to charter a new Circle K, Key Club, Builders, AKTion or KKids before Oct 1, has the option to charter with just member dues and to purchase the supporting materials ( banner, bell, gavel, pins, handbooks, etc) a la carte.
For the Charter year, there is no limit as to the number of members a club may have--in other words, for the charter fee the whole school can be members of the club the first year. Dues may be collected on the local level to start the club's treasury.
The paperwork for the Petition to Charter for all clubs will be changing slightly--mostly in the check off section to be sure the sponsorship fee is included with the Petition.
If you have any questions, please contact the chartered youth administrator
