Key Leader 2009 was AWESOME!

38 students and 12 adults spent a great weekend in Townsend, TN at the 2009 K-T Key Leader event.

This year's event was held April 24-26. Students ranging in age from 14 to 18 years attended. The spring event is unique in that 8th graders may attend.

Throughout the weekend, a professional facilitator leads the participants in activities that focus on the five principles of the Key Leader program:

  • Personal Integrity
  • Personal Growth
  • Respect
  • Building Community
  • Pursuit of Excellence

This year's facilitator was Scott Johnson, Key Club District Administrator for the Carolinas District.

The site coordinator for the event was Justin Ward (Stones River Kiwanis Club). District Chairs are Jack Lee and Bob Hillhouse.

Also attending the event were First Lady Harriet and K-T District Kiwanis Governor Jim Westmoreland. Congressman Jimmy Duncan (Northside Kiwanis) visited with the group on Saturday and spoke briefly to the importance of service leadership in today's society. Also attending the event were two K-T District Key Club officers - Past Governor Abigail McKamey and Lt. Governor (5A) Kamaryn Wilson.

Our thanks go out to the adult chaperones and volunteers who made up the 2009 Key Leader Community. Without the volunteers, this event could not happen.

We're all interested in the health of Kiwanis. The secret to the growth of Kiwanis lies within Service Leadership. Service Leadership is what Key Leader is all about. If you want to know more about Key Leader, visit the Key Leader site or contact your district chairs.
