Board members present: Governor Jim Westmoreland, Governor-Elect Glen Kleine, District Secretary-Treasurer Fran Marion, Lt. Governors Dillard Lester, Faye Dedman, Bob Segrest, Lisa McClung, Arthur Hafner, Tamara Cox, Malcolm Sprinkle, Paul Collins, Anette Eades, Orville Threlkeld, Norman Martin, Carolyn Campbell and Administrative Secretary Vivian Heaton.
Visitors: Kiwanis International Trustee Alan Penn attended along with numerous committee chairs and KT Kiwanians.
Governor Jim Westmoreland called the meeting to order at 1:27 pm.
It was moved by Orville Threlkeld and seconded by Norman Martin to accept the board minutes of August 8, 2008 with corrections of typographical spelling errors. The motion was approved.
Chairman Bud Lane presented the Finance Committee Report from the meeting previously held. It was the committee’s recommendation that we accept the audit and financial statements, noting that the Lt. Governor’s travel budget was not entirely used. It was also noted that the KT Notes were now distributed electronically thus saving additional expenses. Dues were under budget and district office expenses were within budget. Art Hafner moved for approval. Anette Eades seconded and the motion was approved.
District Secretary/Treasurer Fran Marion next presented the convention budget for 2009. We recommend $110.00 registration fee which is $10.00 lower than previous year. The room rate includes continental breakfast. Faye Dedman moved for approval as presented. Norman Martin seconded and the motion was approved.
Donnie Ellis reported on the Foundation. .
Governor-Elect Glen Kleine reported that all 2009-10 Lt. Governor’s need to be in place by Lt. Governor’s Training to be held in Williamsburg March 27-29. Asa Bishop, longtime instructor, will be leading the training.
Committee Chair, Jim Mann proposed to nominate Dolly Parton for the International Service Award for her work with the Imagination Library. Motion made by Malcolm Sprinkle and seconded by Norman Martin. Motion approved after discussion.
Marketing Chairman, Tom Mattingly announced that he would like more clubs to be more involved with club brochure, bulletin and scrap book contests.
Interclub Chairman, Jim Mann encouraged more Interclubs.
Jan Larson Instructor of Club Leadership Education discussed on-line training combined with face to face interaction.
Key Leaders Chairman, Bob Hillhouse and Jack Lee and key leader students discussed the Key Leader event for April 24-26. Key Leader $175.00 and Key Club Member $150.00
Human and Spiritual Values leader, Asa Bishop had article in KT Notes.
TAG, Terrell Horne discussed a 3 year plan about growth of new clubs, retention of members and growth of membership. Holt Carson talked about “how to do it” and “how not to do it”.
In open discussion Bob Brinkman presented issues with membership. Suggested that everyone bring in one (1) member and get forms from International
Mark Garmon opened discussion about serving children.
Key Club Administrator, Steve Phillips introduced Abigail McKamey, Key Club Governor. Key club Agenda was distributed and news about the Convention in Gatlinburg was presented.
More open discussion topics included Nashville attendance goal of 400 participants, club reporting of blood drives, and the contribution to scholarships by clubs.
Governor Jim Westmoreland noted that many clubs had websites that were not being maintained. Governor Westmoreland suggested that if maintenance of the site was difficult to maintain, please remove site from web or have information listed that does not have to be updated.
Al Porell presented a power point presentation of the Reorganization Plan for the District. He explained the plan and answered questions from the board. More detailed information was available in the workshop on Saturday. This plan will be presented to the House of Delegates in Lexington in August. Motion made by Anette Eades to approve the concept of reorganization and present a version to the House of Delegates at convention in August. Motion seconded by Norman Martin and approved.
Clarksville Tennessee wants to be considered for district convention for 2010. Motion made by Orville Threlkeld and seconded by Norman Martin. Motion approved.
