91st Kentucky-Tennessee District Convention

It’s on to Clarksville after the 91st K-T District Contest closed out Aug. 9 in Lexington. The Clarksville Convention will be Sept 9-11, 2010. Please note this is a Thursday, Friday, Saturday convention.Here are some highlights of the big events.
KLEINE ELECTED GOVERNOR, MANN GOVERNOR-ELECT
Glen Kleine (Richmond, Ky.), was elected Governor for 2009-10, with Jim Mann (Clarksville) tabbed as Governor-Elect. The Governor’s banner was thus moved from the Kiwanis Club of Putnam County to the Kiwanis Club of Richmond
Jim Westmoreland (Kiwanis Club of Putnam County) was honored for his Kiwanis service as 2008-09 Governor.
The 2008-09 Lieutenant Governors were honored, and the 2009-10 Lieutenant Governors installed.
DISCUSSION OF PROPOSED REORGANIZATION
The convention heard the pros and cons of the proposed District reorganization in a lively session Sunday morning, with no action taken.
STEVE SIEMONS AND JERRY PEULER WOW CONVENTION ATTENDEES
Past International President Steve Seimons and Kiwanis International Trustee Jerry Peuler each brought inspirational messages to the delegates. Siemons challenged the delegates to embrace change, rather than being afraid of it. He talked about being “contagious” Kiwanis members. Peuler added his thoughts on a number of Kiwanis subjects and likewise challenged delegates to bring a new spirit into their Kiwanis membership and service.
YOUNG FUTURE KIWANIANS HEARD FROM
The Convention heard from International Key Club President Abigail McKamey, Key Club Governor KariBeth Wilkins, Builders Club International Speech Contest Winner Spencer Carpenter, and Builders International Essay Contest Winner Conner Bell. These students were particularly impressive in the content and presentation of their remarks. Abigail and KariBeth are students at Lawrence County High School in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., while Spencer and Conner are students at E. A. Cox Middle School in Columbia, Tenn.
SEMINARS PRESENTED
Seminars were presented on “Internal and External Communications” (Tom Mattingly), Sponsored Youth (Gene Harrell), “New Club and Existing Club Building” (Terrell Horne), “Human and Spiritual Values” (Bob Segrest, Malcolm Sprinkle), and “Service to Children, Community and World” (Jim Mann). Siemons added an “Effective Presentations/Public Speaking” seminar, as did Pueler, Earl Forbes, and P.R. Cook on the subject “Extinction to Distinction.” |
